What is the Purpose of Life?

It was really fun.
The performance (on the 2nd night of the camp) at Singapore Soka Association's Student Division concert was awesome too! Totally!!

What is True Education? -- Soka Kindergarten Independence Camp

Those who noez ah pUaz would noe tt ah pUaz iSh in Singapore Soka Association (SSA). Well, some may heard of it while otherz may not. Understandin' of ah pUaz' religion might differ too. For those who dun noe, it's a Buddhist religion. ah pUaz' not goanna tok bout his religion here coz it can't be done in juz one entry post .. & furthur more, it won't be effective at all. It takez more than juz readin' to understand any religion. But for those who are interested to noe more, you can alwayz ask ah pUaz personally, he's willing to share.

As ah pUaz was sayin', he not going to tok bout his religion, but maybe ah pUaz should do a lil' intro bout his organisation (organisation, not religion) before you gUyz can understand the xtracted partz below. It'll make more sense you see ..

Singapore Soka Association (SSA) is part of Soka Gakkai International (SGI) and has alwayz believe in peace, cultural & education. Talkin' bout EDUCATION, many dun noe tt there's a Soka Kindergarten in Singapore (at Tampines, juz beside Tampines Safra). Also, there a Soka University in Japan and a Soka University of America.

The xtract below iSh from a email which ah pUaz' fren wrote down his thotz after helpin' bout at Soka Kindergarten Independence Camp. It's rather long, but do spend some time to read it if you are free, coz ah pUaz had a few goosebumpz while readin' it. It's really nice.

What is True Education? -- Soka Kindergarten Independence Camp

Dear all,
The following is some thoughts I had, and the things I learnt after the Soka Kindergarten Independence Camp.

26 May'06 was the start of a 2-day "Independence Camp" - the first camp of the SK kid - where the kids are said to grow up, as it's the first time they sleep outside the comfort of their home. It started off with fun and learning at the science centre where they visited the eco-garden, and discovery zone etc. They apparently loved the "water works" - where they get the rare chance to get wet - the most. About 20 "Soka Student Division" (SD) students from local polytechnics and universities went to help out as camp helpers. (Initially some of the guys were still relatively reserved but I just started off quite naturally talking in high pitch with the kids. Putting my ego aside -- that is the way to talk to kids -- this I learnt through experience during my relief teaching of Lower Primary kids. Indeed at the end of the camp all the guys were like "big kids" talking like "no one's businesses" in "a strange way" to the kids! The guys in particular got some praises from the teachers for being very helpful especially those who got wet at the waterworks and have to help dry and change the kids out of wet clothing! Some as a result realized their innate fatherly nature ...

That night we had a "campfire" where we danced to the music and the camp helpers prepared "the chicken dance" for the kids! Children, what's the magic word? -- "Music please!" The kids just were always so vibrant and full of life that even when we tucked them to sleep they were not showing any signs of tiredness when the camp helpers were all yawning away ... At the end of the camp there was much hugging and the SD students couldn't bear to leave the place! We learnt so much from the kids first-hand what Soka education is truly about.

Note: contrary to common beliefs, 60% of the SK student population is NOT from Soka members' families. In fact even not all the teachers are Soka members. SK is a very diversified population of Chinese, Indians, Eurasians, Japanese, Koreans etc.

The principal Mrs. Tay shared with us what is Soka education about.
"SOKA means 'creating value' in Japanese. Therefore, Soka education is about educating children the importance of creating value. Soka education is about heart-to-heart dialogue. It's commitment. It's the understanding that: purpose of education is the lifelong happiness of the heart. Wisdom comes from understanding how life in life is interrelated. Deeply respecting the learner unlocks inner-motivated learning. "

Heart-to-heart dialogue - the teachers encourage the students to talk by talking to them, this is in contrast to many other teachers in schools that suppress this quality by getting students to strictly follow rules and keep quiet.

Wisdom comes from understanding how life in life is interrelated. The children must understand that what they learn now will affect their whole life. In addition, it's not just the teachers in the kindergarten but the world each people the children meet will teach him/her.

"Method of teaching: through heart to heart dialogues where the teachers listen to the children (and also learn from the children), they encourage the children to think, initiate and be eager to solve problems." It's the natural innate instinct or curiosity of every child to ask questions and always learn. An innovative way which is distinctly different from other child-care or kindergarten, SK have NO spellings and such lessons, instead they learn through projects (e.g. after learning about fire fighting the class will present what they learnt to other students, some even built fire engine that are as tall as them and design their own fire fighting costumes) and they initiate what they want to learn, they even have creative computer lessons where they learn to use programs like Microsoft Word and design their own articles deciding what pictures to put etc ... (not merely "see and put" what the teachers say).

"The SK kindergarten also believes that the learners need to be global citizens." They play together in a team to learn about accepting neighbours, understanding multi-racism, i.e. that people are not different due to their skin colours. Children tend to be self-centred when they enter nursery as they do not have the innate awareness of a society yet. So the nursery will have the classes named after the nature. Moving on to K1 the classes are named after various Singapore pioneers like Yusok Ishak, Tan Kim Seng etc. And the chosen pioneers are from different races to teach the kids about multi-racism. Then at K2 the classes are named global writers like Hugo, Anderson, and Aesop etc. So from nursery to K2, the kids gradually move from "I" to "We" to "Others".

The SK is a beautiful 3-storey tall, fully air-conditioned building where the corridors are named "lanes" i.e. the whole SK is just like a mini global city! In fact the kids have a mini "post office" in the building. It has just 'expanded' and the setting is made as realistic as possible with the counter, "stamp-vending machine" etc - I was wondering if any kids aspire to be a postman. But I digressed - The kids will write to each other from other classes and drop them in the SK mailbox at the main gate. The K2 students will then be "postmen" every morning and deliver these mails to the mail boxes outside the respective kids' classrooms! Oh the stamps are also designed by the kids themselves! How wonderful! Few other children form other kindergarten will get such exposure to learn about being global citizens. In fact even most tertiary students may not understand that! SK kids are so way "in front"! (Gee, I certainly regret being born long before SK is established in Singapore.)

Just like this time where we students from the Soka Student Division (poly and university) -local tertiary institutions - went to help out and learn with the kids, students from Soka University in Japan also have had their chance to come to Singapore to have an exchange with the kids! Therefore, the kids will have someone as a concrete role model and look forward to their bright future ahead which will otherwise be quite abstract.

The kids also have gym lessons and they are certainly capable of doing a lot of stunts. These lessons definitely will train their courage too.

The teachers: "Humanistic teachers are a key in Soka education. A truly humanistic person raises a truly humanistic person."

The principal, Mrs. Tay, also said that the teachers really care for the kids so much that the kids can feel it! When the teachers get angry some of the kids cry! I really was convinced when I saw a similar incident myself! -- A student apparently took his classmate's light-stick but the teacher did not shout and yell but instead merely said firmly, "Who's the one that took his light-stick? I'm very sad that this kind of thing happen." The student immediately owned up! Wow!
Indeed the Soka educators must be creative to bring out the creative potential which is different in each single child.

I asked Mrs. Tay, "Even as a short-term relief teacher at Primary School, I felt the pressure to follow the lesson plan and keep the children quiet at all times. At times, I am really reluctant but I had to shout at them - I feel so bad!! -- to keep them quiet so I can teach what's on the textbook! Not forgetting the big class size, how do teachers attain a heart-to-heart dialogue?" She suggested perhaps teachers could use the time during recess to sit down and talk to the kids, really know them and care for them. The kids can really feel it and in turn will willingly cooperate during lesson times. In fact if you tell them your problems, who knows, they may even have the solutions! (don't underestimate them!) In the end it boils down to how creative and caring the teacher wants to be.

Kids nowadays are smart indeed. I was really lost for words when Primary Two kids asked me, "Why you so handsome?" Ha.
Or "Teacher can don't do anymore work? I really want to vomit blood le!" These words coming from a Primary Two?!!

Or I said, "If you don't brush your teeth, the bad guys in your mouth will attack your teeth.
They 'corrected' me, "No, these are not bad guys. They are germs, bad germs."

You wondered the show "Kids say The Darnest things" is real? Reconsider.

At times their words really make me laugh heartily. This is a reason why though at times I may be traumatized that I would risk losing my voice, I still prefer to relief-teach at Primary instead of JC level.

Oh another observation: Kids love to help teachers: clean the whiteboard, carry books, set up projectors, etc... Well at least the P1s and 2s at RSS that I taught, do. They love to come out to present their answers too! This is indeed the crucial period to encourage and reward this kind of behavior rather than to curb it.)

The Kids: The SK kids are definitely DIFFERENT! They are wonderful and they learnt to care and help for each other.

At the science centre water-works, the SK kids are very well-behaved without being told, this is in comparison to kids from another kindergarten also present. They are also very warm people. At night when we tucked them to sleep at the camp, we took almost forty min just to settle them down as they said good night to almost everyone around them. They would hug the teachers and the camp helpers tightly before the soothing music played get them settled down to sleep. I was very touched when the kids took the initiative to hug me really tightly!
The next morning they would greet us cheerfully. "Good Morning!" and I would ask them, "Where is my morning Hi-Five?"

There was also a boy called Wai guan who went around hugging us big bro big sis i.e. the camp helpers. And he said he like us and wants to be friends with us. We all lost count of the number of times he hugged us respectively. Other kid once said, "Come here" as we were walking in a file at Science Centre eco-garden. I was surprised when he just wants to hold my hand as we walk! Ha!

There is something different about SK kindergarten kids! (Yes and I'm proud to say my current tuition student is from SK too! now in Sec Four le!)

Oh just a side note: I enjoyed watching the kids brushing their teeth and Wai guan is also my teeth ambassador! Because he brushes very thoroughly that when all the rest finishes he is still brushing! Oh yes the SK need mirrors in the toilets at the 3rd floor - essential so they can look how they brush their teeth - can someone please sponsor?

I'm hoping to collaborate between perhaps the dental students at NUS or NYP and SK to educate the SK kids about dental health. Anyone interested please contact me. Thanks!

The School Motto: Strong, Righteous and Free
Strong: The children learnt to be strong and courageous. Not physically but character wise, i.e. they must learn to admit to their mistake and say sorry.

Righteous: Morally upright.

Free: Free with a sense of responsibility. They are given freedom to do certain things they want to if they are capable of giving valid reasons. Mrs. Tay cited an example: sometimes during mass story telling sessions a kid may want to read a book by the side alone from others -- As long as he/she can provide a valid reason why he/she wants to do so, they will allow.

Soka Education Philosophy
"Education is an important undertaking of the Singapore Soka association. Based on the Soka education philosophy of "value-creation", SSA Soka Kindergarten opens in January 1993, offering Kindergarten year one and two classes. In year 2000, the school started the nursery classes, and the school has had an international population comprising Chinese, Indian, Malay, Sikh, Japanese, American, Australian and Korean students. Over the years, some 750 students have graduated from the school. The Kindergarten's mission is to cultivate each child's individuality and potential to the fullest in the course of preparing him/her for formal school education."

Again, it's stressed that the kindergarten does not teach spelling. We were concerned and asked about the disparity the kid will face when he goes to primary school. Mrs. Tay explained that these are part of learning to adapt. They'll grow accustomed to the life in about a month's time. In my opinion it boils down to what kind of personality we want our child have in the future. To know how to spell is not something unique but to know how to help others is. I knew someone whose grandson has graduated from Soka kindergarten and she lamented that she had to bring him to extra lessons when he started Primary education. Then I probed further about how is the child as a person i.e. as a human? She then smiled and rattled on with pride that his grandson knows how to help his friends and once even hurt himself in the process due to another kid not cooperating. You asked me if "which kindergarten I will let my child go to"? The answer is obvious.

A teacher
To some, is a job.
To some, it's called a career.
But a true educator takes the name as
A commitment.
A passsion.
Life-long.

A true educator must be creative
To bring out the creative potential of every different child.
He must be strong at all times.
A slight negativism disappoints the young minds.
Even when he's tired,
He can't afford to show negativity
Not a tinge!

It's not easy being an Educator.
Students look up to him.
His little gestures,
The glow in his eyes,
All determine if the student will be confident
Or not.

True Courageous Educators,
I Salute You.
With my heart.

(Dedicated to all true educators. Some had passed away. But memories stay. Forever. Generations after generations. I truly experienced personally the little things a teacher showed in his/her actions/tone of voice/eyes that can really destroy my confidence. Or build it. ) (Never give up! Politics? Lousy education system? Just remember even the seemingly worst and rebellious student are waiting for one teacher patient enough to help them. Just one. Are you the one?)

Inconsiderate ..

ah pUaz believez tt everyone have had bad xperiencez with inconsiderate ppl (in the public) before ..

Common onez like:
- Not moving towardz the back of the bus
- takin' the outer most seat of the bus; not willing to move into the inner seat
- Not giving way while u're movin' out of the train
and so on ..

But there's one which ah pUaz findz it really irritatin'.

Dun noe if you gUyz xperienced it before?
Havin' slow movin' ppl in front of you on a fast movin' escalator.
ya noe wAd ah pUaz mean?!
Espically on those fast movin' escalatorz in crowded placez like Orchard & Dhoby Gauth MRT station.
The city area.
Once the train stop at these stationz,
the escalatorz are packed with passengerz from the start to the end,
and it movez very fast to transport the crowd ..
and you haf some inconsiderate ppl in front of you who take their own time to STROLL to exit the escalator.
And when u're behind them & you noe tt there are people behind you,
you noe tt you haf to move fast bcoz there's a crowd behind you, who can't slow down to exit the fast movin' escalator.
And you ended up movin' in a very awkward way behind the inconsiderate person in front of you.
Like tip-toeing in small lil' stepz behind the person (as if it really makez alot of difference).
It's as if u're going to "F" the person frm behind. Feelz very dumb. Very.

For those readin' this, plz make travellin' on the escalator a more pleasent journey for everyone by exiting fast.

ah pUaz' not referin' to the elderly or the handicapz here yo. Most of them use the liftz anyway.

A very quick design which ah pUaz did.

Happening next Wed. It'll be a full day event with loadz of panelz to see & educate uRselvez.
This exhibition project is initiated by Singapore Soka Association's Student Division.

Mr Daisaku Ikeda, my mentor in life, commented:
"According to the latest figures released by Brazil's Ministry of Environment in May last year, 26,130 square kilometers (10,088 square miles) of the Amazon rain forest, roughly 12 times the area of Tokoyo, were destoryed in the 12 months ending in August 2004. If deforestation continues at this pace, the entire rain forest could be destoryed within the coming few decades."

"For the sake of humanity's future, nothing is more important than addressing environmental issues."

gUyz, ah pUaz noez, some of you might be thinkin', "wAd the hell?! wAd has this got to do with mi yo?! It doesn't matter if I dun care, someone else would .." Well, if everybody tinkz tt way, then who's going to care bout this lovely green Earth tt we live on?! lOlz!

hEy hEy! ah pUaz' back to blog yo! lOlz!

Well, it's been 2 weekz since Fusion 2006 was over & ah pUaz has been procastinating bout bloggin' bout it. ah pUaz shall do it nOw since he's in the mood to do so nOw .. lOlz!

yEAh. Fusion ended on a good note. But somehow, the feelin' of a "endin" isn't there yo? The mood .. you noe wAd ah pUaz mean? tt emotional feelin' you haf when you haf uR graduation in pri sch or sec. sch?! yEAh? It juz felt so diff. for ah pUaz this time round. It wasn't wAd ah pUaz xpected. ah pUaz was discussin' this with a few frenz & they agreed tt it was really diff. A female fren actually felt rather emotional, but seeing tt everyone was happy, she held back her emotionz. Come to tink of it .. on the last day of Fusion, when everything came to an end, everyone juz packed & go .. no last wordz, no sense of unwillingness (iSh tt the correct word? lOlz!)

ah pUaz actually had some personal thingz to say to each individual .. but he juz couldn't find the right opportunity to do so .. the mood, under those circumstancez, juz wasn't appropriate. Even at the club. The onli person tt he managed to say his "personal last wordz" to was Wan. The rest, maybe coz it was meant to be tt ah pUaz dun get to tell you gUyz his "personal last wordz". lOlz! It'll be rather dumb for ah pUaz to do so here .. coz it'll be a long list & it's not goanne be personal anymore ..

Maybe coz we noe tt we're still goanna see each other in this design industry or we noe xactly where one will go into tt we dun really haf any last wordz or sad goodbyez to say .. unlike in pri/sec. sch, where we dun really noe where one will go, coz the optionz of takin' something diff./going a diff. route iSh juz too great. yEAh.

3 yrz in DMD has been a really great & awesome xperience.

Here's a list of great memoriez tt ah pUaz'll keep in his heart:
- gRp 08: The great timez we haf at Sentosa, playin Volleyback for like, foreva. Bay08!
- SDN Orientation 2004: The camp, the bondz, the screwed up timez & the crazy time & most imptly, when Ian dresses up as PaulLan Abdul for us!! *Respect!* lOlz!
- Project & Assignmentz: The sleepless nitez juz to make miricalz happen.
- The timez when we were so screwed & fed up with datelinez & burst out sayin', "I dun wanna do already!!" But we still end up doing & drownin' ourselvez in our own agony again .. tt's coz we somehow still love wAd we're doing (tt's why they say designerz are physcoz) lOlz!

ah pUaz dun noe wAd kinda impress he givez his frenz. Well, maybe ah pUaz' not the typical design student, coz he has another passion/interest in dance. He doesn't play DOTA or play the guitar, & the timez when he haf to go off to spend time on his other passion, tt's why he doesn't really haf much time to hang out with his fellow frenz or get to noe them even betta. There are definately timez when ah pUaz dun do well in both design & dance & tinkz to himself if whether he would do betta in one of his passion/interest if he were to gib up on the other. But it's really hard to gib up on either one. Sacrifices have to be made & balance's the word then.

It's been a long time since ah pUaz posted yo?!
Well, haven't really been in the mood to blog.

ah pUaz was out to catch a mid-night movie with a few of his frenz on Thur night.
Catched V-for-Vendetta, if u wanna noe.
The movie was great, but ah pUaz' not going to tok bout the movie.
ah pUaz' goanna tok bout the commericals before the movie started..

And so .. it goes like this ..
pUaz & frenz were early. They got into the cinema while the lightz were still on.
Soon, the lightz dimmed (as usual) & the commericalz started! (Boy, I sound excited, don't I)
ah pUaz couldn't really remember wAd the first commerical was, but ah pUaz could clearly remember the second .. It was a FHM commercial!! HaHa! hEy, hEy, but before u jump to any conclusion .. it wasn't any normal FHM commercial! Apart frm the layoutz of the magz with all those gAlz with their big boobiez ..

The moment ah pUaz saw the commercial,
he went "wAd the ..."
You gUyz noe wAd was the tagline/headline of the FHM commercial?
It went: "Better than Tammy's home video!!"
IN THICK BOLD FONTZ & CAPZ siaz ..
mAn, don't they haf any other betta lines to use?!

weEe!! Finally found some time to update!
ah pUaz' life has been quiet happenin' recently.

yEAh. Suntec Dance '05 finalz is over and Steezerz won 2nd in placin'!! It was a really great xperience mAn! ah pUaz & his crew memberz were already very happy tt we could make it into the finalz .. & nOw, winning a placin' in the finalz iSh really an additional bonus to us. Even if we didn't get any placin', ah pUaz' sure tt his crew matez & him had a great xperience/time joining this compy. It feelz really good when ppl (strangerz) come up to you & say tt they think tt u've put up a good show. That, more than winning a placin', meanz alot more to us. ah pUaz' glad tt the judgez & the audience like wAd they saw.

ah pUaz would like to show his appreciation to:

've been practising hard and till the sch's lightz and aircon are automatically switched off. lOlz! ah pUaz bought a new pair of black adidas shoez for this compy to go with his costume, but ah pUaz lookz kinda funny in the shoe eHz .. imaging a tall, lanky gUy with big bulky shoez .. funny eHz?! lOlz! ah pUaz and his crew will be getting our custom later. ok! Here for some updatez bout ah pUaz' life:

ah pUaz has been very bz for the past few weekz.
Attachment,
Dance,
Religion activitiez
and other commitmentz.

Somehow, going online to update blogz, and the Friendster stuffz juz became secondary. There's so much more to do in life than to do all these cyber stuffz. Well maybe coz it's the shortage of xcess time to do all these kinda stuffz ah pUaz guess.

Attachment has been going rather well. There are different work loadz and different datelinez to meet and ah pUaz has been learnin' how to prioritize his time to meet the different dateline. It ain't any ez. ah pUaz may be rushin' to met a certain dateline when some other juz cut in in the middle of the process and squeeze you (mind you, ah pUaz' thin enuff already. lOlz!) to do this certain stuff and it's urgent too. So, at the end of the day, you haf two datelinez to rush, which one of it squeezed it's way in. lOlz! But hEy, ah pUaz' ok with it. It's a challenge and it feelz good at the end of the day and start to wonder how you did wonderz when you thot it was impossible initially. ah pUaz has also been learning how to do effectz. Guess tt ah pUaz' goanna be a "After Effectz King" at the end of the day eHz?! lOlz! Juz joking!! ah pUaz hope to suck out more skillz from his attachment place.

oh yEAh, ah pUaz and his dance crew iSh joining a dance competition!! It's the Suntec Dance 2005!! ah pUaz and his crew will be going for the 3rd heatz of the competition. Detailz as follows:

For those who wanna noe more, there are a total of 3 Heatz (Prelims) to this competition. A total of onli 10 crewz from all 3 heatz will get a chance to go for the finalz, which will be held on 17th Sept. at the Fountain of Wealth. Heats 2 will be held next Sat, same time same place.

So as you can see, ah pUaz' daily weekday routine will be:

Caught up with sleep,
Did some planning,
Caught up with some frenz,

Nice to haf some personal time.

yEAp, it's been 2 weekz since after ah pUaz' FYPJ. Might be a lil' to do blog bout it, but ah pUaz shall still do it. hmMm ... 3mthz, Learnt quiet a few thingz which ah pUaz wouldn't haf learnt in moudlez/class. But somehow, ah pUaz' been rather lazy, or shall he say, not discipline enuff in many areaz. He noez very clearly tt he could haf learnt much more and done alot betta. Somehow, something was lackin' in him. hmMm. Definately got to know all his fren who were in the same FYPJ period betta. Great "chilling" in tt cold room with those gUyz mAn. lOlz! Got to be closer to some of his frenz too. Great xperience.

ah pUaz' doing his attachment nOw. It's been 2 weekz since ah pUaz has been attached. He's likin' it there so far. His colleguez are fun and generouz. They've been takin' care and guidin' him well. There's quite a bit of workload ah pUaz haf to say. 2 week onli & he's been doing & learnin' quite a bit already. mAn, time passes really fast when he's doing his work. It's like, "eHz?! A day pass juz lidat", but at least he manage to get thingz done.

ah pUaz wanna learn as much as he can durin' his attachment. Learn as in, not onli in skillz, but also learning more bout himself & how far he can go to achievin' thingz. He has set a few goalz for himself, but how much can he actually challenge himself to achievin' it? Onli time can tell. We'll noe it in 3 mthz' time.

Haf been catchin' up with some of ah pUaz' frenz at their attached place through their blogz. Seemz like everyone haf their likez & dislikez. hEy gUyz, you noe wAd, all ah pUaz can say iSh to learn as much as you gUyz can from wAd u're asked to do. Give it uR best shot too. It might not be the skillz tt u've learnt at the end of the day, but it might be the character tt u've built. There's something to learnt from everything.

Ya' noe wAd? ah pUaz wasn't very pleased with the system & software versionz tt he has to work with initally, but he still haf to work. ah pUaz' fine with it now as he noez tt it actually preparez him to work in any other worse conditionz the next time when he goes out to the workin' world. (Trust ah pUaz, alot of you gUyz are workin' with betta computerz & up-to-date softwarez than he is).

oh well, guess ah pUaz shall stop here. Here's a quote to end:

Stress Managment

hEy gUyz!! Take some time to read the following which ah pUaz wanna share. It's really nice & appliez to all; whether u're a student or an workin' adult. njOy!!

Stress Management:

A lecturer, when xplainin' stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water & asked how heavy is the glass of water.

Answerz called range from 20G to 500G. The lecturer replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It dependz on how long you try to hold it. If I hold it for a min, tt's not a prob. If I hold it for an hour, I'll haf an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, u'll haf to call an ambulance. In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.".

He continued, "And tt's the way it is with stress management. If we carry our burdens all the way, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on. As with the glass of water, u'll have to put it down for a while & rest before holding it again. When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden.".

So before you return home tonight, put the burden of work down. Don't carry it home. You can pick it up again tmr. Wateva burdens u're carrying now, let them down for a moment if you can. Relax. Pick them up later after u've rested. Life iSh short. njOy it!

I guess the tough thing in life iSh bout learning the stand alone spirit.

Read an article on the train 2 dayz back. It mentioned something like: In the toughest situation, you have no one but uRself to depend on. Kinda didn't agree with this sentence when I first saw it in the first paragraph. But as I read on, it made more sense to mi. Take a natural disaster event for example. Wad's our very first instint when a natural disaster occur suddenly? "Run for MY life!", yEAh? Would we haf even thot of, "I've got to safe my fren!" i doubt so yEAh? During the most pressing and difficult situation, human will alwayz think bout themselvez first. Let's face it, it's human natural to be selfish. Sad truth. Human will alwayz tink of their own survial first. yEAh, we maybe able to depend on our close frenz to be there for us at timez, but not all the time.

"hEy mAn, I'll be there for you no matter wad!" Familiar? We've all said tt to our close frenz/hear tt from our close frenz. But there'll be timez when our fren iSh too caught up with their own life tt they can't be there to be with you. When u're down & when all uR frenz are all bz with their own life, you haf only uRself to turn to.

I guess I'm a really good example.
As much as I wanna be there for all my close onez wheneva they need mi, there iSh onli 1 mi.

Sometimez,
I hate myself for alwayz being bz

Have you come across timez when you really wanna share something wif uR close onez, but you realise tt it's kinda hard to share with 'em, coz of some "lingo" which they dun understand. It's not their fault tt they dun understand wad it meanz, it's juz tt they neber go through/xperience wad we're doing to understand wad we're tryin' to share. yEAh?!

Take for example:
The night before, ah pUaz was tokin' to his MaMa. ah pUaz wanted to share with her bout something tt he's doing in his course. He really felt like sharin' with her, but he was stuck.

Both ah pUaz' parent dun understand English. ah pUaz' Dad had no form of education & ah pUaz' MaMa onli had her education till Pri 3 (think kampong standard).

ah pUaz was stuck coz:
How do you say 'scripting' in Chi?
How do you say 'Apple Mac' in Chi?
How do you say 'interactive' in Chi?

ah pUaz juz went into a moment of thot: Thinkin' back bout himself & his frenz and how much he/they have changed ..

mAn, it's really scary.

It's really scary bout how much one can change over the yearz ..

Frenz who once had very fine character & academic resultz, dun seem to do as well nOw .. Frenz who ah pUaz once knew tt they hated smokin' to the core, takez up the puffz nOw .. Frenz whom ah puaz once looked up & admired for who they are, ain't who they used to be nOw ..

mAn, it's a really painful sight to see all these happen to ah pUaz' frenz over the yearz. Maybe ah pUaz might not understand wad they've xperienced or gone through tt lead them to the change. They might haf their reasonz ah pUaz guess. It's really painful when you see uR loved onez doin' the negativez but dun know how to help them. It's really hard to voice it out to 'em, coz it'll be like hittin' it on 'em right in the face. hmMm ...

On the brighter note, it's really amazin' to see some of ah pUaz' frenz doin' betta in their livez .. Fren who didn't do well in their studies are nOw doing very well with the path tt they've chosen .. Frenz who onced used to induluge in gangstery actz, now get themselvez more proactive with school eventz .. Frenz whom ah pUaz neber really have a good impress of, nOw gain ah pUaz' admiration.

ah pUaz has definately changed over the yearz too. Some positive & some negative. ah pUaz wonderz how much change his frenz have seen in him.

Change. It's a very powerful word.

ah pUaz and his dance frenz went to the Singapore Indoor Staduim to catch 'BREAK! The Urban Funk Spectacular' last Fri. mAn, the show was awesome!! Definately worth the $$. But the crowd wasn't tt great, maybe coz it's a dance thing, the stadium was juz half-filled ah pUaz guess. The crowd was mostly dancerz, or ppl who are actively involoved in the dance scene. (Well, tt's why ah pUaz' there, aik aik! lOlz!)

dah was the one who did most of the scriptin' for our application and he's definately a great gUy to work with. Without his scriptin' knowledge, our application wouldn't even work so well if ah pUaz were to do it himself. Cat would reckon this too yEAh?!

yEAh! Time for some updatez!
ah pUaz got his replacement card le. He can be contacted at the usual no. again, but pardon him if ge tries to find out who you are coz he lost all his contact noz. yEAp!

ah pUaz got 2'B+'s and 4'B's for his semester result. More or less xpected the resultz. But resultz dun really matter to ah pUaz nOw. Resultz dun really show how good you are. So wad if you've got very good gradez (by memorisin' or cheatin') but at the end of the day, you dun understand wad you've learnt, how to apply wad you've learnt and show wad you've learnt. ah pUaz realise tt there's still so much more tt ah puaz haf to learn.

ah pUaz' dance gRp's goanna guest performance at Hwa Chong Junior College's dance event 'Body Language', held at Hwa Chong Junior College this comin' Friday (13.05.05), 4.30p.m. to 6.00p.m.

ah pUaz' dance gRp's oso goanna guest performance for Shartec Peageant 2005 held at Planet Paradigme this comin' Sunday (15.05.05). Those who are interested, esp gUyz, can go down to have a eye feast. Enterance fee at 22 buckz. The gerz are really hot! Think model standard. Really. Trust mi.

Nice. Nice day ah pUaz had yesterday.

Met up with his gRp matez to discuss bout their project enchancement yesterday. ah pUaz' really happy tt their project got selected for enhancement. From a concept which their project supervisorz thot would not work, ah pUaz and his team matez really worked together as a team to get their idea/concept across. It's the best gRp work/project tt ah pUaz has done so far. It was a really wonderful work-together xperience. Thankz to his really cool gRp memebrz; Cat for her powerful, jaw-droppin' illustrationz and Dah for his "Nothin'-iSh-impossible" attitude and scripting powerz. Come to think of it, wad has ah pUaz done? lOlz! Alwayz felt tt ah pUaz didn't do much. Really. While the rest of his team matez would sae the same thing too ... wad's wrong wif designerz mAn?! lOlz! No wordz can describe wad ah pUaz and his team has gone through/xperienced. hEy Cat & Dah! We've got our chance for enhancement, so let's try out best to make our application even betta yEAh?!

After discussion, they chilled ard and tok bout their livez & their thotz. It's been a long time since ah pUaz really got to do this wif his frenz mAn. ah pUaz wish tt he could do this more often.

ah pUaz went home in the evenin'. While at the void deck, he met his parentz who were on their way out for dinner. ah pUaz' Dad asked him to join them for dinner, but ah pUaz didn't agreed initially, coz he wanted to take a bath first. ah pUaz agreed to it after his Dad's pursuadation. And so, they walked out together to have dinner ...

While walkin' out, it was then tt ah pUaz realised how L-O-N-G it has been since he last went out with his family to have dinner together. A year? Or maybe even longer? ah pUaz realised how bz he has been with his life tt usually, he eatz the home cooked left overz by the time he reachez home. And on weekendz, he'll juz stay home to rush his assignmentz while waitin' for his parentz to pack dinner for him. Dinner was especially nice yeaterday. If only his bro didn't haf to go to work, the whole family would be havin' dinner together then. tt day will come.

It strucked ah pUaz how he has left/missed out his loved onez all these while while he's bz with his own life. It's really time for some great catchin' up to be done mAn! To all my loved onez/close frenz out there (you gUyz noe who you are), I juz wanna say I LOVE YOU.

ah pUaz' back!! This time with a totally new blog design and layout!!

wOhz ... it's been a really L-O-N-G time since ah pUaz last blog. lOlz!! I guess some off you gUyz haf juz gaf up visitin' ah pUaz' blog, wonderin' if ah pUaz still remebers tt he actually has a blog! lOlz! Well, nOw tt ah pUaz' back, it's with a totally new blog design!! yEAh!! lOlz!

ah pUaz has alwayz wanted to do his own blog design. However, procastination juz dragz on till today. lOlz! Finally, ah pUaz got the urge to get his own blog design done. ah pUaz took a few hourz to get everything done. If u're wonderin' if ah pUaz took the pic juz for his blog, the answer iSh 'NO'. ah pUaz was browsing through his photo album and thot tt this pic would be nice for his blog ... and there, a design iSh out! lOlz!

Well, won't say tt it a very nice design, but at least ah pUaz is satisfied that he has his own blog design. lOlz! Before ah pUaz did his course, ah pUaz was a total HTML-idiot. nOw, at least ah pUaz can do his own blog design. I tink you gUyz get his new design concept. Hope you gUyz like it.

Alot haf been happenin' to ah pUaz' life. It would be ridiculous to state everything down (ah pUaz doubt if anybody even bother to read. lOlz!). Along the way, ah pUaz has grown and mature alot. The obstacles and the downs made ah pUaz stronger. The opportunities and the ups made ah pUaz betta. Tough times it may be, but ah pUaz' glad tt he made it this far, so far.

ah pUaz has been thinkin through and sortin' out his thoughts these few days:

ah pUaz used to care alot bout wad others tink of him and tries to please everybody that he can. Ended up? He's the one who gets hurt. hEy, come to tink of it, who pleases him in return?

True, ah pUaz may haf alot of frenz, howeva, ah pUaz dun really know who to turn to when he has personal problems. True frenz, he may haf, but most of them are caught up with their own personal problemz too, or they haf their loved onez to tend to. ah pUaz dun wan them to worry for him anyway. ah pUaz understandz tt. Dun tink so much and get it over wif, juz like he alwayz does.

How often are we judged by people? They assume and xpect you to do this/tt and take it for granted when you do it. ah pUaz dun need apprication or xpect anything in return, coz he does things willingly, but all his need is juz simple respect. tt's all he ask for.

Thinkin' back, ah pUaz also realised how SELFISH and IRRESPONSIBLE he can be at times. ah pUaz apologise for those time.

Slackin', yEAh, tt's wad ah pUaz haf been doin' for the past 2 daez ... feelz great to do tt once in a while ... lOlz!

Went for my sch's musical performance yesterdae.
1 word = wOhz!!!
mAn! The overall performance was TOTALLY AWESOME!!! Though the dance movez were not really synchronized at timez, but the overall cheorography & the stage charisma compensated all the other faultz ... ah pUaz was in the musical initially, but dropped out due to difficulty in juggling btw sch assignmentz & practisez. You didn't noe how regreted ah pUaz felt after watchin' the whole production ... DAMN! But ah pUaz was really happy for those of his frenz who were involved in the musical. They did an awesome job mAn! Well done gUyz! The time you gUyz spent on practisez despite the tight schedule and difficultiez tt you gUyz may haf faced, it really paid off. ah pUaz' impressed!

The musical production iSh held once every 2 yearz ... and it's a very big production where by it involvez mani diff. CCA gRpz & they hire external cheorographerz to stage the production. ah pUaz saw wad he missed out ... The fun, the exposure, the chance to interact wif the otherz frm other CCA gRpz ... Well well, hope ah pUaz will get to join the muscial production 2 yrz later. Maybe ah pUaz will be joinin' as an alumni then ... lOlz!

Had a great dae at West Coast Park todae too ... got a little tanned too.

Did you gUyz missed ah pUaz?! I bet you peepz did! lOlz! ppl haf been tellin' ah pUaz tt his blog iSh dustin' ...

hEy hEy! ah pUaz' here to clear the dust todae! Firstly, THE TERM BREAK ISH HERE!!! yEAh!!! It's Friday nitez & ah pUaz's felling G-R-E-A-T!!! Surfing the net like nobody's business iSh such a pleasure. No worries, no assignmentz to rush (for the time being onli ...) and no heavy headz! ah pUaz' so high ... lOlz!

ah pUaz juz recovered from his sickness not long ago ... ah pUaz had a up-&-down fever for 1 week++. It suckz to be sick! Really! Feelin' all so uncomfortable & weak, and all you log for iSh rest & sleep. Ended up missin' quite a few classes & almost couldn't keep up wif wad was going on in class ... couldn't dance too ... lOlz! Really happy to be healthy ... There's alot more to enjoy!

hEy, come to tink of it, it's going to be 2 mthz since Poly yr2 started for ah pUaz ... OMG, time really filez mAn! There's alot ah pUaz has yet to achieve ... ah pUaz' plannin' to use this term break to do a little more achivementz ... yEAh!

Haf been takin' over moi CCA as Vice-Pres for 2 mthz too ... Well, thingz are alritez so far. Somehow felt tt there iSh still tt senior-&-junior line being drawn there ... hope we'll get to bond betta soon! High hopez are being set for my juniorz ...

A lot haf been happening to ah pUaz but pUaz neber had the time to update ... tired at timez to do so anyway. TIME neber seem to be on ah pUaz' side ... Maybe becoz there's really too much to do, neber endin`, or it's juz plain procastination ... ah pUaz himself can't really tell too ... wHaHa! Well well ...

It's been a week since the start of Poly 2nd yr for ah pUaz. Poly 2nd yr life's good so far ... oso doing well so far (hope so) ... got into a specialistion with many design enthusiast & passionate peepz ... competition iSh tough mAn! really tought ... BUT I LIKE ... lOlz! Sound so SM siaz ... Neber in ah pUaz' yearz of education tt he really wanna do well & look forward to doing his best until he entered Poly ... Guess tt he made the right decision & he's in the right course ...

ah pUaz' mood has been rather lower than average these few daez ... Maybe coz of the increase in work loadz & responsibilitiez & the constant worryin` of stuffz & planningz tt he has ... Been searchin` for the really high spirited "HIM" tt ah pUaz has. Hope depression doesn't fall on ah pUaz ...

NYP SDN freshmen Orientation'04

yEAh, the NYP SDN freshmen Orientation'04 iSh over. It was great fun mAn! The 3 weekz plannin` wasn't an ez task at all. All OGLz had experienced & went through a lot. That was how we bonded. Wasn't an ez way to where we were. Upon seeing the success of the Orientation, where the freshmen had loadz of crazy fun & as the classez bonded wif their classmatez during the 3 daez, all the hard work & late nitez was all worthwhile mAn! Wordz simply can't describe wad ah pUaz wanna sae. Even so, there's too much to describe. ah pUaz` typin` this to keep this as part of his memory. OGLz, you gUyz rock!

I'm back!!!

wOhz! It's been a long time since ah pUaz blog mAn!

Well well, it's been a really bz holidae for ah pUaz! So much to do, so little time. Haven't been eatin` well recently too ... ah pUaz need some readjustmentz in his life mAn! There's alot of challengez & it's been rather tough. Haf been learnin` & experiencing alot! There's moi sch's orientation planning, moi CCA upcomin` performancez, and moi sch's Club Crawl (CCA orientation). Loadz of plannin` & workin` wif alot off diff. peepz. A challenge to ah pUaz' E.Q. mAn! lOlz!

Some thoughts for you peepz to ponder:
How many timez do we actually understand wad someone iSh going through? Ppl usually see thingz on the surface & come up wif their own conclusion & set their own expectationz of you & expect you to met their expecationz of you. But how many ppl can we please? And who pleases us in return? Complicated life ... life goes on mAn, life goes on ...

ok, enuff of all the grumblingz.

NYP's Dinner & Dance'04

hEy hEy! ah pUaz had a performance for his sch's Dinner & Dance'04 at Meritus Mandarin Hotel yesterdae!

We were suppose to meet 12.30p.m. at Somerset MRT control. In the end, onli ah pUaz was the early one, when ah pUaz rushed & thot tt he was the latest! The next one who reached was at 1.30p.m.!!! Well, it's not the first time tt they haf this extreme punctuality prob. Everyone haf this mentality tt they can take their own sweet time coz they noe tt someone's goanna be late. In the end, everyone thinkz the same way & everyone ended up late! Get wad ah pUaz mean?!

After everyone had reached, we went to the Hotel to haf our rehearsal at the ballroom. mAn! The ballroom was nice! Even though, the place lookz abit old. We had to perform 2 dancez for the nitez. A 70's dance & a 90's dance, while the other dance gRp had to do a 60's & 80's dance. We finished our rehearsal & went to haf dinner at Far East.

We got ourselves ready by 7.30p.m & waited for our turn to perform. mAn! ah pUaz tinkz tt he lookz gd in the 70's costume! lOlz! The 70's dance was at 9.00p.m. while the 90's dance was at 10.00p.m. Our dance ended at bout 10.30p.m. We went Lau Pat Sat to haf supper together after tt & ah pUaz reached home at bout 1.30a.m. A dae passed juz lidat.
